Canada’s Rugby Sevens team

The Canada national Rugby Sevens team and the Canada women's national Sevens Rugby Union team are Canada´s representatives of Rugby Sevens for Canada in several international major tournaments. These tournaments include: the Sevens World Series, Pan American Games, the Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup Sevens, and the Summer Olympics.

Men´s team

The male team has had several achievements and honors. In 2011, they earned the Gold Medal in the Pan-American Games with an agonizing score of 26 against Argentina´s 24 at the Tlaquepaque Stadium in Guadalajara. They also became the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens Plate Champions tournament at which New Zealand earned the cup. In that same year, the team won the bronze medal at the World Games by defeating France. 

The team also won gold for the 2015 Pan American Games tournament that was held in Toronto, Canada from July 11 to 12. 

The team competed for a spot in the 2016 Summer Olympics at Rio de Janeiro. The qualification tournament took place on June 18 and 19.  Canada ended in position 5, hence did not qualify to participate in Rio 2016.

Women´s team

The Western Canada Women's Championship was established in 1983.  By 1999, Canada had thirty registered teams.  The Canada women's national Sevens Rugby Union team also represents Canada in international tournaments. The team was announced by the World Rugby as one of the six “core teams” to participate and play all four rounds in the World Rugby Sevens series in 2012-2013.

The team qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio by earning a bronze medal after beating Great Britain. In this Olympics, they won four games out of six, losing the other two. 

The team won a gold medal for the Pan American Games in 2015. This is the same year in which women’s Rugby Seven was added to the games for the very first time.
